The IDC study presents data from IDC's 2008 Consumer Panel Home Networking Survey, focusing on the home network owners' interest in nondata networking applications, such as media networking and home automation. This study is part of a series of documents looking at data from the survey of home network owners. "Home network owners have long expressed an interest in media networking applications and, despite the year-after-year failure of the industry to deliver on a high quality experience, that interest continues to grow stronger than ever. Recently, however, the quality of networked consumer electronics devices has begun to catch up with the interest in media networking applications, and IDC believes that we are nearing an inflection point in adoption of advanced home networking," says Jonathan Gaw, research manager in IDC's Consumer Markets: Home Networking program.
